Criteria for all Eyreton teams' competitions

  • Must be a financial member
  • NZPCA Five Rally rule applies. Rider must have attended no less than FIVE working rallies during the 12 months preceding the closing date for entries. THREE of these must be on the mount nominated for selection.
  • Riders are expected to provide results on the official form obtainable below or at PC. One form per horse. Forms must be to named selector by the date set.
  • Selection will be based on results. All levels will be looked at.
  • Combination must have COMPLETED (finish on a live score (not Eliminated at any stage)) at FOUR events at the level/above the level they are nominating for.
  • Eyreton expects from each team member
            - reserves are expected to be at the competition to help and support.
            - one parent from each family should be prepared to assist with either managing, fence judging, camp mother, etc.
            - to do as coach and manager request re fitness, turnout, etc
  • Teams will be announced via meeting, phone or email and website within a few days of result closing date.
  • Contribute to working bees and assist at the ODE

For Springston Trophy
  • All of the above 
  • A minimum of 2 of the following events are compulsory and all recommended
                        Amberley
                        Rangiora
                        Eyreton
                        Springston
                        Roydvale

  • Riders / parents will be expected to pay some of the costs involved. Half of training costs and full trianing costs if funding isn’t available. Accommodation, food and transport to be paid by the riders/parents.
  • Team members, including reserves, are expected to ride in Amberley Cup
  • Eyreton expects from each team member           
            - horses will be shod
            - reserves are expected to be at the competition to help and support.
            - one parent from each family should be prepared to assist with either managing, fence judging, camp mother, etc.
            - to do as coach and manager request re fitness, turnout, etc

Teams Competitions

Please make sure that you read and understand the rules that are relevant to the competition. They can be found on the NZPCA website under Rules.

Please check the criteria (above) as some of these competitions require that you have been out competing at the level by the time they happen. Other parts of the criteria apply to all competitions.

South Island Show Jumping Champs

Date: January 10/11th January 2023
Venue:  Eyreton Pony Club
** Show jumping, 4 classes held over 2 days.

Team of six riders
            Two seniors            under 24                    jump 105cm    goes up for jump offs by approx 10cm           
            Two intermediates   17 and under            jump 95cm      goes up for jumpoffs by approx 10cm 
            Two juniors            14 and under              jump 85cm     goes up for jump offs by approx 10cm

It is at various venues around the South Island and may require nights away. Riders are expected to have been out show jumping, either at straight show jumping comps or as part of a One Day Event.  


North Canterbury Teams Champs

Date: Sunday 26th March 2023
Venue: TBC

Turnout
Quadrille Dressage - the team of four ride a synchronized dressage test (in a 60 x 20m arena)
Team Jumping (T) - synchronized jumping 
Gamblers Stakes (GS) - get to pick what you jump from a selection of different heights worth different points
Games

Team of four riders under 21. 
            Assisted          lead rein                      jump ground rails T, GS
            Pre-Novice       approx D level              jump 25cm T, ground rails to 45cm GS
            Novice level     approx C level              jump 40 cm T, 30cm to 65cm GS
            Champs level    approaching C+ level and over   jump 50cm T, 60cm to 90 GS

Points are awarded for each phase and accumulated for overall placing. 

Collier Trophy

Sunday May21st 2023
Venue: TBC

** One day Event. Dressage test, show jumping course and cross country course.
Team of 6 riders
            Two seniors                 16 & under      80cm
            Two intermediates        14 & under      65cm
            Two juniors                  12 & under      65cm

There must be at least one rider from each age group plus one more. The competition is run by Christchurch Pony Club at various grounds. It is designed for riders not yet competing at Springston Trophy level. The best four scores from each team (one from each age group) are used to determine placings. You and your pony as a combination can’t have ridden at Springston Trophy and finished on a live score (not been eliminated) or competed at 95cm or above.

Amberley Cup

Date: Sunday August 27th 2023
Venue: Eyreton Pony Club
North Canterbury Teams’ Dressage Competition. Each rider rides two tests.

Team of 4 riders. 
            Under 21                     Level 2 (Novice)         
            16 and under               Level 2 (Novice)
            14 and under               Level 1 (Preliminary)
            12 and under               Level 1 (Preliminary)

This is suitable for anyone able to canter in an arena. It is held at one of the North Canterbury branches. The best three scores are taken to determine the team placing.

Stringer Trophy

Date:  September 17th 2023
Venue: Rangiora Pony Club
Riders do 1 dressage and 1 show jumping round, the best 3 scores count
Team of 4 riders
Class 1: 21 years and under - 75cm
Class 2: 16 years and under - 75cm
Class 3: 14 years and under - 60cm
Class 4: 12 years and under - 50cm

Springston Trophy

Date: October 27th-29th 2023
To be held in Clyde
** South Island Teams One Day Event (run over 3 days). Dressage test, show jumping course and cross country course.

Team of 6 riders
            Two seniors                 under 24          jump 105cm
            Two intermediates        17 and under    jump 95cm
            Two juniors                  14 and under    jump 80cm

There must be one rider at each level. The best 4 results, one from each category are used for final placings.

There are several specific training sessions and the team is away for about 5 days. The event is held at different venues in the South Island. Team members, including reserves, are expected to ride in Amberley Cup.

Windsor Teams Show Jumping

Date: 19th November 2023
Venue: TBC (A NC grounds)
** North Canterbury Show jumping competition

Team of 6 riders
            Two Seniors               Under 21         jumps 95cm
            Two Intermediates      16 & under       jumps 85cm
            Two Juniors:              13 & under       jumps 75cm

Riders are expected to have been out show jumping, either at straight show jumping comps or as part of a One Day Event.


North Canterbury Games / Prince Philip Cup

Teams’ Games competition. Teams play four games.

Team of 4 or 5 riders. 
            Lead Rein / Assisted
            14 and under 
            15 - 21.

There are pony height/rider weight rules.

Held at a North Canterbury branch, the three best placed teams go on to the Prince Philip Cup


Zone Games

Venue: TBA
Teams’ games competition. Teams play 9 games against other teams in our Zone (half the South Island).

Team of 4 or 5 riders under 21 years. 
There are pony height/rider weight rules.
